About the Practice
My practice in the Rivierenbuurt neighborhood is tiny and personal, where you and your health are my top priority. I appreciate people who ask questions, and we can brainstorm together about the best solution for your complaints. On this page, you’ll find more information about what you can expect regarding the approach, treatments, and rates.
About the chiropractor
I’m Gitte, Danish, and have lived in the Netherlands since 2004. My first encounter with the Netherlands was in 2003 on a solo bike ride from Denmark to Ireland, and I immediately loved it enough to return! Since 2004, I’ve gained experience in various practices and provinces in the Netherlands. I opened my own practice on September 21, 2009.
In 2023-2025, I spent some time in Tanzania and Denmark, and as of January 3, 2026, I’m thrilled to be back in Amsterdam, welcoming both old and new patients.

I completed my training in Denmark at Syddansk University; it’s a five-year university Master’s program, which, after successfully completing a one-year internship, grants the title of Chiropractor. The first three years (the bachelor’s program) are identical to those of medicine, after which the two programs are separated into two separate Master’s programs.
My vision for this practice is…
… a practice that is a natural part of the neighborhood
… to help people get rid of complaints and keep them there
… to keep people without complaints that way
… to be a source of information about healthy and optimal living
Between October 2017 and March 2023, I was the president of the Netherlands Chiropractors’ Association (NCA), the oldest and largest professional association for chiropractors in the Netherlands. In addition to serving on the NCA board in various other positions, I have also organized a number of conventions for the European Chiropractors’ Union.
Within chiropractic care, I work with a holistic approach. This means that painful areas must be examined, of course, but also the “hidden defects.” These often cause compensations, and therefore symptoms somewhere else. I don’t just look at the painful area, but work from the philosophy that everything must move properly for optimal functioning of joints, muscles, and ultimately the nervous system. The body has a natural power to heal itself, but sometimes it needs a nudge in the right direction.
In my continuing education activities, I primarily focus on courses in neurology, vestibular rehab and functional medicine.
Besides my work in the practice, I spend time walking, reading, photography, and fitness.
First appointment
During your first visit, I will have a consultation with you to get the best possible impression of you and your current health, as well as any past complaints or injuries. Bringing x-rays, MRI scans, or other examinations is also appreciated. After discussing your health history, I will continue with a thorough physical examination, consisting of neurological, orthopedic, and chiropractic tests.
After the examination, I will discuss the findings with you and develop a suitable and personalized treatment plan. The following topics will be covered:
Diagnosis/cause of the complaint
Explanation of the treatment plan: Type and duration of treatment
Prognosis and future expectations: The advantages and disadvantages of the approach will be discussed and a consent form will be submitted
Advice, such as: Ergonomic advice, posture correction, accessible exercise(s), nutritional advice, etc.
A first appointment usually lasts one hour.
Follow-up consultation
During the follow-up consultation, I will ask about the response to the previous treatment and any improvements. Where necessary, various tests will be repeated to determine whether there has been any improvement or change and/or whether we need to adjust the approach. Often, a follow-up or multiple treatments will be necessary to achieve the desired result. This depends on the nature and duration of the complaint, age and general health, habits etc.
People are creatures of habit, and incorrect compensatory patterns often creep into our movement, causing the complaints to recur. Consider, for example, neck and back pain related to computer work. In these cases, it is predictable that problems will recur. In these cases, a periodic preventive check-up is recommended.
A follow-up consultation typically lasts 30 minutes.
